Education Philosophy
The Child Development seeks to develop the whole child: physically, mentally, morally, spiritually, emotionally and socially. This is to be accomplished through learning activities and giving guidance according to developmentally appropriate practice.

Our goals for each child are:

  • to create within each child a respect for others and self.

  • to guide each child as he grows more aware of the world surrounding him.

  • to aid each child in his natural curiosity about all things.

  • to impart knowledge to each child and aid him in independent thinking and problem solving through books, records, stories, the senses, motor experiences, and equipment.

  • to watch and listen as each child expresses his ideas, opinions and creativity.

  • to teach each child to take instruction from adults other than parents.

History of the FBC Child Development Center
The First Baptist Church Child Development Center was established in August of 1984. Susan Edison was the first director to oversee and care for our greatest treasure…the children. The center began with 9 staff and 25 children. The Preschool division came later. The center was not where it is today, but in the Main St. Education building, which was built prior to the 1950's. The Child Development Center consists of the center Director, the Assistant Director, First Baptist Church Staff, Preschool teachers, the CDC teachers, children, and parents. The Child Development Center, and Preschool are supported by registration and tuition dues. First Baptist Church subsidizes the child care ministry by providing budget assistance, space, transportation needs and other necessities.
