Thinking
Psalm 139:14:
I praise you, for I am
fearfully and wonderfully made.
We must
stand in awe before God and his
marvelous creation. When we consider
the intricacies of life, when stare into
the depths of space through a powerful
telescope, when peer into a living cell
with an electron microscope, we must
wonder at the intelligence that design,
created, and sustains it all.
Of all
that God created, I find human beings
the most fascinating. In addition to
all of the incredible features of the
physical animal, God displayed his
creative power in devising human beings
as free-will creatures. In a universe
where he has ultimate and absolute
control, God created human beings with
the power of choice and self-control.
Now, that
last phrase—the power of choice and
self-control—presents us with an
interesting phenomenon. We make a
choice to control ourselves! To give us
that kind of power means that God has a
high level of confidence in us. To
allow us to decide how we will direct
our lives God has taken an enormous
risk. God lets us be us! God does not
micromanage us!
We should
take the cue from God in our
relationships. We must exhibit
confidence in other people. We must
take risks and invest ourselves in them.
We must let others be themselves.
Grace,
