Have you ever felt like perhaps there is more to life than this? Have you ever felt like you were meant to do something "bigger" with your life? Do you ever hear that voice in your head reminding you that you should "stop taking more than you are giving"? I must confess to you right here that these questions pull at me constantly. Perhaps it is the state of the economy, or the guilt of being incredibly blessed while so many others struggle so desperately. I’m not sure. What I do know is this…there are people in the world who do not have the peace that comes with knowing what I know. That is…"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
As Christians, we hear these words so often it might be easy to assume that everyone knows them. This would be a dangerous assumption with serious consequences.
Last year I had the opportunity to travel to Honduras on my first missions trip with an incredible group from FBC. The friendships that were made and the experiences we shared made an impression on me that I can’t find words to describe. We left Dothan as a group of 12 individuals and came back as brothers and sisters in Christ.
Our mission was to administer basic healthcare to the people in the most rural areas of Honduras and share with them the Gospel that would give them the everlasting life that gives us so much peace. It was in these moments of sharing the Gospel to those hearing it for the first time that I truly knew I was doing something important, something permanent, something that really mattered.
If you are like me and are also ‘pulled’ by the search for purpose, perhaps you too will consider one of the 5 missions trips that FBC has planned this year.
- Honduras in August, September or October (firm dates coming soon).
I am inviting you to put your routine on hold for a week and come along with us. We have some good news to share with the world, and who knows, maybe you too will find some answers of your own.
